POSITION OBJECTIVE:

The primary objective of this role is to oversee and respond to individuals placed under Home Detention, ensuring community safety, reducing risks, and minimizing reoffending rates. This position emphasizes the application of evidence-based methodologies as mandated by judicial authorities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain communication via a mobile device to address potential breaches of Home Detention promptly.
  • Conduct unannounced and scheduled visits to the residences of individuals under Home Detention.
  • Provide detailed reports to the Court and/or Home Detention Coordinator regarding any infractions and the measures taken in response.
  • Perform supervision tasks including monitoring activities, facilitating substance abuse referrals, conducting drug screenings, maintaining accurate records, and managing correspondence with individuals on probation.
  • Engage in court-related duties such as testifying, offering case recommendations, collaborating with legal representatives, and preparing necessary documentation.
  • Execute fieldwork responsibilities including home inspections, vehicle searches, employment validation, and supporting law enforcement as needed.
  • Conduct background checks through appropriate state databases.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in case management systems.
  • Adhere to the Indiana Office of Court Services' standards for certification and ongoing education.
  • Complete required assessments and comply with all relevant regulations.
  • Follow all procedural guidelines set forth by the Hendricks County Probation Department.
  • Collaborate with various county departments and agencies as required.
  • Uphold the Judicial Code of Conduct as established by the Indiana Supreme Court.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

  • Possibility of carrying a firearm in accordance with local law enforcement protocols.
  • Operate county vehicles in compliance with state laws.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned.

EDUCATIONAL AND PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution, preferably in Social Sciences.
  • Certification as a Probation Officer from the Indiana Office of Court Services.
  • Relevant certifications as mandated by the Indiana Office of Court Services.
  • Proficiency in all standard office software and case management systems.
  • Strong communication and motivational interviewing skills.
  • Ability to interpret Indiana Statutes and manage diverse priorities independently.
  • Maintain confidentiality and effectively manage challenging interactions with individuals under supervision.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position requires work in an office setting, court environments, and field locations. The role carries inherent risks associated with potential physical confrontations. Availability for after-hours communication is expected.
