The Child Behavior Intervention Specialist will deliver operational and administrative assistance in the realm of behavioral intervention as part of the mental health and disabilities initiative at Mile High Early Learning (MHEL), adhering to Federal, State, and MHEL standards.

Key Responsibilities of the Child Behavior Intervention Specialist:

  • Establish relationships with individual children and early childhood education (ECE) providers to deliver effective behavioral intervention services.
  • Conduct targeted classroom and child-specific behavioral observations, providing constructive feedback and recommendations to ECE providers to enhance positive child guidance strategies.
  • Offer ongoing modeling and coaching to classroom staff in areas requiring support for the implementation of targeted social-emotional supports and individualized interventions for children exhibiting challenging behaviors.
  • Assist in MHEL's behavior planning process concerning challenging behaviors from birth to five, which includes continuous communication with center staff, parents, and referral agencies.
  • Provide necessary resources and modifications, such as specialized furniture, equipment, and materials for children, to aid classroom staff in achieving classroom and child-specific goals based on assessments and behavior intervention plans.
  • Facilitate collaboration and lead behavior intervention plan meetings within interdisciplinary ECE teams and families to tailor strategies and goals for children demonstrating challenging behaviors.
  • Deliver ongoing case management and consultation to families of children with challenging behaviors and their ECE providers to inform onsite supports and foster positive behavior changes.
  • Empower families to understand their rights and their children's rights while navigating MHEL's policies and procedures related to behavior intervention and safety planning.
  • Oversee the tracking, documentation, monitoring, and reporting of students on caseload, including training and assisting ECE providers with data collection.
  • Conduct training related to supporting children with challenging behaviors, including the Inclusive Practices in Early Childhood (IPEC) certificate program and MHEL's Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS).
  • Comprehend and support the implementation of the Mental Health/Disabilities school year action plan.
  • Generate appropriate reports in line with job expectations.

Standard Responsibilities:

  • Utilize developmentally appropriate conflict resolution skills to assist children in learning to resolve their own conflicts.
  • Ensure that ethnic and cultural backgrounds are recognized and that cultural activities are integrated into the educational program.
  • Engage with a diverse population, including individuals from various educational, economic, cultural, and racial backgrounds, some of whom may not speak English as their first language.
  • Adhere to child care licensing requirements, Head Start Program Performance Standards, and all other relevant program requirements.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all aspects of enrolled parents, children, and employee information as defined by MHEL, State of Colorado, and Federal regulations.
  • Effectively manage conflict and remain composed in busy or emergency situations.
  • Identify instances of child abuse and report them to the appropriate personnel according to MHEL and State reporting requirements.
  • Foster professional relationships with parents, colleagues, staff, and community agencies.
  • Participate in ongoing training to fulfill job requirements.
  • Attend and engage in agency meetings relevant to the job role.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Associate of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE), Special Education, or a related field.
  • Two years of experience working with children with disabilities and their families.
  • Prior experience with children and families from diverse backgrounds.
  • Clearance of CBI/Central Registry check and post-employment physical.
  • Reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and current State of Colorado automobile insurance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE), Special Education, or a related field.
  • Bilingual in Spanish, Arabic, or Amharic.

Physical Requirements:

  • Engage in activities involving substantial standing, walking, and moderate sitting; frequent stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, crawling, twisting, and reaching.
  • Work with hands above shoulder height with a weight of up to 20 pounds.
  • Work with arms extended at shoulder height with a weight of up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to stoop, bend, and kneel on the floor without assistance.
  • Participate in routine conversations in person or via telephone and distinguish auditory signals, alarms, and tones.
  • Under unusual or emergency circumstances, may be required to lift a child weighing up to 50 pounds.
