Job Summary

The Medication Assistant (MA) serves as a caregiver who provides resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned residents under the supervision of a charge nurse. This role requires knowledge of and delivery of age-appropriate care related to the physical and psychological needs of the resident as per plan of care.

Responsibilities include assisting residents with daily living activities, such as bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, and providing psycho-social support. The MA may also assist with meal preparation and dining, creating a positive experience for the resident. Additionally, the MA administers prescribed medications as delegated by a licensed nurse and documents outcomes related to resident care, medication administration, behavior, activity, and dietary.

Qualifications include a high school graduate or general equivalency diploma (GED) preferred, but not required. A minimum age of 18 is preferred, and prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care is preferred. The MA must satisfactorily complete yearly department-specific competency testing and maintain a record of continuing education credits for each year.

State-specific certifications, such as Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Trained Medication Assistant (TMA), are required.
