Key Responsibilities
  • Designs comprehensive educational curricula as sanctioned by the Board of Education, including lesson plans, learning activities, and educational resources tailored to the unique needs, interests, and capabilities of assigned students.
  • Instructs students in a manner that inspires academic success and fosters the development of their intellectual, emotional, and social competencies.
  • Delivers a balanced program of individualized and group instruction, demonstrations, activities, and work periods to accommodate diverse learning styles and provide opportunities for observation, discussion, and inquiry.
  • Develops lesson plans and curricula that reflect an understanding of the influence of students' cultural, ethnic, and social backgrounds, special needs, and individual learning preferences on their motivation to learn.
  • Guides students in the learning process towards achieving curriculum objectives, establishing clear goals for all lessons while striving to implement the educational philosophy and instructional aims of the district.
  • Establishes and enforces appropriate classroom rules and procedures in alignment with district policies, maintaining clear standards of student behavior to create an orderly and effective learning environment.
  • Collaborates with fellow educators to assess and discuss students' needs and progress, develop lessons and activities in accordance with the adopted curriculum, coordinate instructional efforts, identify academic and behavioral challenges, and make referrals to appropriate personnel as necessary.
  • Works with various staff members to make necessary accommodations for students as required by Individual Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 plans, integrating suitable teaching strategies into the curriculum to effectively meet students' needs.
  • Communicates effectively with parents to build rapport, discuss academic progress, set expectations, develop improvement plans, address inquiries, and assist in resolving existing and potential issues, all while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Maintains accurate student records regarding daily attendance and grades in the student management system.
  • Continuously assesses student progress through various evaluation methods, preparing progress reports as required by school guidelines.
  • Administers standardized tests in accordance with state testing protocols, adhering to security guidelines and attending necessary training to ensure compliance with testing policies.
  • Provides leadership to classroom assistants, effectively assigning duties to meet classroom objectives and develop effective instructional plans.
  • Organizes and supervises educational field trips and other approved activities to support the curriculum, guiding students in applying their learning experiences.
  • Monitors students in the responsible use and care of computers and other educational materials, ensuring compliance with established policies.
  • Collects and maintains thorough documentation for the purpose of preparing reports, recording activities, and adhering to applicable district policies and regulations.
  • Ensures availability to students and parents for educational purposes outside of instructional hours when required or requested under reasonable terms.
  • Reports any evidence of child abuse/neglect as mandated by state law, as well as severe medical or social conditions, potential suicide, or signs of substance influence.
  • Familiarizes with the school's safety plan and actively contributes to a secure school environment by following relevant procedures and laws, reporting unsafe conditions, and assisting with supervision as needed.
  • Participates in various staff meetings and professional development programs, including in-service activities, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops, and serves on teams and committees as appropriate.
  • Performs other job-related duties as necessary.
Qualifications

A Bachelor's Degree in Education from an accredited institution and valid teaching certification in Alabama with appropriate subject area endorsements and grade level qualifications.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to exert 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, 10-25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly.

Employment Terms

Nine-month academic year. Salary as determined by the Superintendent and approved by the Board.
