Neurology Telemetry Registered Nurse
Overview
As a Neurology Nurse at CHI Saint Joseph Health, you will care for patients experiencing serious neurological conditions, including hemorrhages, aneurysms, strokes, brain and spinal tumors, seizure disorders, and spinal disorders.
Your role is crucial in providing optimal care while assisting patients and their families in making informed decisions regarding their treatment.
Given the specialized nature of our neurology patients, we prioritize maintaining low nurse-to-patient ratios on this unit.
Your responsibilities will include conducting neurological assessments, comprehensive physical examinations, administering medications, monitoring vital signs, and closely observing patients' blood pressure.
You will also oversee external ventricular drains, intracranial bolts, or lumbar drains, collaborating with fellow nurses, physicians, case managers, and a dedicated team of allied health professionals to ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients.
While the core duties remain consistent, each day presents unique challenges. You will encounter complex cases, including patients with newly identified neurological diseases or intricate brain surgeries.
As we tackle challenging cases, it's important to recognize that not every outcome will be favorable. A genuine passion for neurology and a commitment to advancing medical science are essential. Although the work can be demanding, it is immensely rewarding when patients and their families celebrate their successes.
About CHI Saint Joseph Health

Responsibilities- Ensure continuity of care by collaborating with nurses from the previous shift and conducting a joint neuro examination before their departure.
- Perform neurological assessments and comprehensive physical examinations, vigilantly monitoring for any changes in patient status. Oversee external ventricular drains, intracranial bolts, or lumbar drains, track blood pressure, and promptly inform a physician of any neuro status changes, fluid balance issues, or difficulties in maintaining appropriate blood pressure. Administer medications as required.
- Act as a compassionate resource for patients' families, as many patients may be unable to make their own decisions. Families often have questions and play a vital role in supporting our patients.
- Above all, provide the highest standard of care to every patient, every day, while preserving their dignity.
We are pleased to offer a competitive sign-on bonus for eligible new hires.
