Legal Advisor for Marine Conservation

ECO Magazine is seeking a dedicated Attorney Advisor to contribute to the protection of our oceans and marine ecosystems. This role involves working within a national framework of civil prosecutors focused on safeguarding marine resources and sanctuaries.


The Attorney Advisor will engage with various federal and state law enforcement bodies to investigate and take action against breaches of marine conservation legislation, including the Magnuson-Stevens Act, the National Marine Sanctuaries Act, the Marine Mammal Protection Act, and the Endangered Species Act.


Responsibilities include:

  • Handling cases primarily from the Northeast region while providing support for cases from other offices.
  • Collaborating with the Department of Justice on significant criminal matters.
  • Delivering training to law enforcement personnel at NOAA, the Coast Guard, and state and local agencies.
  • Advising on legislative and regulatory matters affecting marine conservation.


The role also involves close cooperation with the Department of State to formulate effective international enforcement strategies against illegal fishing practices.


The successful candidate will report to the Deputy Section Chief of the Enforcement Section, contributing to a wide array of legal issues related to U.S. and international fisheries, marine mammals, and the preservation of coastal and marine environments.
