Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Recreation Specialist 2 to join our team at the State of Oregon. This position will be responsible for assessing, developing, coordinating, and implementing recreational programs and leisure time activities for adults in custody.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in recreation management, physical education, or a related field, and will be able to provide a high level of customer service while working in a shift environment with walking, bending, reaching, and prolonged time outside.

This position is represented by American Federations of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) and may be eligible for Police & Fire (P&F) benefits through Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), as defined by statute.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess, develop, coordinate, and implement recreational programs and leisure time activities for adults in custody.
  • Supervise and direct sport activities, and maintain accurate inventory and secure storage of recreational equipment.
  • Document progress and participation in programs, and track, plan, and manage budget in a state government environment.
  • Provide supervision and serve as a liaison for all volunteers, staff, and the community to ensure training, orientation, and facility familiarization requirements are met.
Requirements:
  • Three years of experience assessing, developing, coordinating, and implementing recreational programs and leisure time activities; or a Bachelor's degree in Recreational Management, Physical Education or a related field.
  • Ability to pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility.
