Role Summary:

The Family Support and Stabilization (FSS) program is designed to assist families receiving support from the Department of Children and Families. Our goal is to enhance parenting capabilities, improve family dynamics, ensure child safety, prevent out-of-home placements, and facilitate successful reunification processes. The FSS team aids families in connecting with appropriate community resources, including mental health and substance use programs for all family members.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality services to families involved with the Department of Children and Families (DCF) in line with specific FSS models.
  • Collaborate with parents/caregivers to meet the goals set by DCF.
  • Conduct assessments to identify strengths and needs, establishing long-term service plans.
  • Develop personalized treatment plans in partnership with clients and/or caregivers, ensuring compliance with DCF and other providers.
  • Regularly review and update treatment plans as per established policies.
  • Facilitate or arrange transportation for clients to necessary appointments and services.
  • Collaborate with clients and caregivers to create risk management and safety plans.
  • Address child safety and welfare concerns by connecting families with community resources and advocating within educational and legal systems.
  • Identify community resources and foster natural supports for clients and caregivers to achieve treatment goals.
  • Provide crisis and emergency support for clients and family members through various communication methods.
  • Assist clients and caregivers in establishing and maintaining collaborations with other relevant professionals.
  • Report all emergencies or critical incidents to supervisors promptly.
  • Offer additional visits and wraparound services for emergency support as needed.
  • Maintain flexibility in scheduling visits with families, including evenings and weekends.
  • Engage in ongoing collaboration with mental health providers, DCF social workers, and other community entities.
  • Participate in DCF meetings to address ongoing concerns and recommendations.
  • Keep detailed records of family interactions, including progress notes.
  • Communicate regularly with the DCF team, providing updates on client engagement and progress.
  • Provide guidance on parenting skills and address unique stressors faced by diverse populations.
  • Support parents/caregivers in enhancing parenting skills and reducing behaviors that may compromise child safety.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A master's degree in a human services field from an accredited institution.
  • Training in family therapy and experience working with youth and families.
  • Experience navigating child/family-serving systems and advocating for family members within the behavioral health system.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills, creativity, and analytical thinking.
  • Strong communication, administrative, and organizational abilities.
  • Capability to work effectively with diverse populations and community agencies.
  • Willingness to be part of a program supporting youth and families 24/7.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle for program needs.
  • Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish required; English/Portuguese and Cape Verdean are a plus).
