Position Details

This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to our growing organization. We are looking for an Accredited Clinical Coder who is eager to take on challenges and collaborate with our skilled team.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Certification from the NHS Digital National Clinical Coding Standards Course (21-day course) - please note that AAPC certification is not recognized in the UK.
  • Completion of the NHS Digital National Standards Refresher Course (must be within the last 3 years).
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in clinical coding.
  • A strong grasp of clinical coding methodologies and the ability to adapt to evolving practices.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and proven capability to manage personal workload effectively.
  • Proficiency in various computer systems, particularly MS Excel, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities

Your main duties will include:

  • Accurately coding all primary and secondary diagnoses and procedures for NHS operation episodes, ensuring the clinical coding workload is manageable.
  • Actively participating in hospital teams to influence operational practices aimed at enhancing the quality of clinical information.
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of all coding standards published by NHS Digital TCDS.
  • Engaging in continuous professional development through workshops and refresher courses to stay current with coding advancements.
  • Managing your workload to meet the agreed coding targets and deadlines.
  • Providing expert coding advice to clinicians and information staff as needed.
  • Identifying and implementing improvements in clinical coding procedures and protocols.
  • Ensuring all activities are invoiced according to established targets and contractual obligations.
  • Completing data entry tasks accurately and promptly.
Candidate Profile

The successful applicant will also demonstrate:

  • A solid understanding of medical terminology.
  • Previous experience in clinical coding within a healthcare setting, with confidence in using software tools including Word and Excel.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and customer service abilities.
  • The capacity to meet specific deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ideally, prior attendance at the National Clinical Coding Standards Foundation Course and achievement of the required National Standards level.
  • Familiarity with Maxims and SAP I-SH is preferred.
  • The ability to assist patients with their inquiries.
  • Completion of an entry coding exam may be required.
  • Desirable qualifications include National Clinical Coding Qualification and Accredited Clinical Coder status (ACC).
