About the Role

  • This position plays a critical role in driving manufacturing innovation at Intuitive Surgical. You'll contribute your technical expertise to develop high-volume manufacturing solutions for minimally invasive robotic surgery.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience in process and/or manufacturing, including automated production systems. Prior leadership experience, project management skills, and experience launching new manufacturing into production are highly desirable.


Responsibilities

  • Create, maintain, and improve mid- to high-volume manufacturing assembly lines, specifying BOMs, workflow processes, manufacturing plans, and detailed work instructions.
  • Apply automation control and robot manufacturing system knowledge to ensure designs and processes meet performance standards (Yield/MTBF), serviceability (MTTR), and throughput consistency (OEE).
  • Utilize process design tools like discrete event simulation, PLC programming, and robot path simulation to validate equipment designs before physical build.
  • Manage design for manufacturing, tolerance stack analysis, locator development, and other cross-functional inputs during product design.
  • Design, document, procure, qualify, implement, and improve fixtures, tools, and equipment.
  • Examine manufacturing lines from a risk perspective (PFMEA) to develop protocols and validate critical tests used in manufacturing.
  • Responsible for validating and qualifying manufacturing equipment and processes using standard qualification approaches (IQ/OQ/DQ/PQ).
  • Provide production line support for day-to-day engineering issues.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement projects focusing on first-pass yield, cycle time reduction, product reliability, capacity enhancement, and cost reduction.
  • Maintain compliance with medical device quality systems, including corrective action closure, discrepant material dispositions, and engineering change implementation.
  • Run technical support analyzing and/or performing failure analysis for discrepant production components, assemblies, and field returns.
  • Act as single point of contact with equipment vendors, handling business processes, workload prioritization, and escalations.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent; Master's preferred.
  • Minimum 5-7 years' experience in process and/or manufacturing, including automated production systems.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills to interface with technicians, engineers, and leadership regularly.
  • Prior responsibility for process, equipment, or product validation/verification.
  • Prior experience designing and maintaining automated production equipment.
  • Prior project leadership experience and launching new manufacturing into production.
  • CAD experience (preferably Solidworks).
  • Spanish language proficiency is a plus.
  • Industrial robot and/or PLC programming experience is a plus.
  • Experience in an ISO 13485, ISO 9001, or medical device manufacturing environment is a plus.
  • 100% onsite role with occasional travel (approximately 30% of the time).


Compensation

The target salary range for this role is $153,100 - $220,300 depending on experience, skills, and qualifications. Benefits include market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, benefits, and equity.
