The Department of Engineering, Engineering Technology, and Surveying at East Tennessee State University is in search of a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor specializing in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline. This role is a 9-month faculty appointment.
Key Responsibilities
The selected candidate will be responsible for delivering undergraduate education in the joint general engineering degree program (B.S.Eng.) shared with Tennessee Technological University. Responsibilities include:
- Teaching a variety of undergraduate courses and laboratory sessions in mechanical and general engineering.
- Covering essential topics such as thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, machine design, and materials handling.
- Engaging in undergraduate research and supporting student organizations, including the engineering club.
- Participating in ABET accreditation processes and overseeing senior design projects.
- Contributing to student recruitment and departmental service activities.
Departmental Context
The Department of Engineering, Engineering Technology, and Surveying operates within the College of Business and Technology, encompassing seven departments and various programs. It boasts a multidisciplinary team of over 12 faculty members and offers multiple ABET-accredited programs.
Research Expectations
Active engagement in research is a requirement for tenure-track faculty members.

Qualifications
- A Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field is required by the hire date, or a Master's degree with 10 years of relevant industrial experience.
- A proven track record in research and scholarly activities.
- Experience in collaborative, multidisciplinary environments is essential.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated industrial and/or teaching experience.
- A strong publication record and experience with externally funded research.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensure is preferred.
