POSITION SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Director of Surgical Services, the Staff RN (Surgical Services) will oversee and coordinate nursing care to fulfill patient needs in the surgical setting. This role involves delivering optimal perioperative care to surgical patients through a systematic nursing process, including assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation, in accordance with relevant guidelines and organizational policies.
KEY PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
- Effectively implement the nursing process.
- Continuously evaluate patients, plan care, and provide both direct and indirect nursing services.
- Anticipate changes in patient hemodynamics.
- Educate patients and their families on care procedures.
- Administer medications, blood products, and assist with anesthesia as required.
- Prepare patients for surgical procedures, including positioning and prepping.
- Establish and maintain a sterile environment using appropriate techniques.
- Participate in surgical procedures as a circulator, scrub nurse, or recovery nurse as needed.
- Understand and monitor basic EKGs and cardiac functions.
- Engage in Universal Protocol to verify patient identity, procedure, and surgical site.
- Provide treatments, wound care, and dressing changes.
- Maintain cleanliness and functionality of surgical and recovery equipment.
- Communicate equipment and supply needs to the Charge Nurse and Director.
- Report maintenance issues and safety hazards promptly.
- Ensure compliance with infection control and safety standards.
- Participate in ongoing education and training.
- Maintain organizational standards in line with regulatory requirements.
- Manage inventory and track expiration dates in central processing.
- Document surgical cases accurately in the posting system.
- Handle and prepare specimens according to protocols.
- Provide comprehensive reports during care transitions.
- Prepare sterile trays and maintain accurate records of sterilization processes.
- Operate sterilization equipment and maintain records of usage.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High school diploma and graduation from an accredited nursing program.
Training: Degree in nursing from an accredited institution.
Licensure and Certification: Must possess a valid State of Georgia RN license, along with BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications. ACLS/PALS must be obtained within a specified timeframe after hire. CNOR certification is preferred.
Experience: A minimum of six months to one year of relevant experience or a combination of education and experience.
