Job Summary

Effingham Hospital Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Registered Nurse to join our Emergency Department team. As a Registered Nurse in this role, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care, leading the nursing team, and ensuring the smooth operation of the department.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Patient Care: Provide direct and indirect patient care, assess patient conditions, and establish priorities for treatment.
  2. Leadership: Lead the nursing team, supervise subordinates, and direct them as needed to ensure the efficient operation of the department.
  3. Communication: Communicate effectively with medical staff, other departments, and outside agencies while maintaining confidentiality.
  4. Safety and Infection Control: Ensure adherence to proper infection control, OSHA, and safety standards.
  5. Documentation: Complete all necessary and pertinent patient information, treatment received, pain levels, present medications, reactions to treatments, and medications given in the ED.
  6. Emergency Situations: Manage lacerations, head injuries, respiratory arrests, cardiac arrest, overdoses, burns, poisoning, trauma, drowning, bites, and psychiatric cases.
  7. Supply Management: Assist in checking and stocking of all supplies and drugs used in the department and by paramedics, and for the inventory of drugs via the Pyxis.
  8. Transfer Arrangements: Assist in arranging transfers to other appropriate facilities.
  9. Physician Direction: Provide nursing care as directed by the physician.
  10. IV Administration: Administer IV fluids and blood products according to hospital policy.
  11. Procedure Preparation: Prepare patients for ordered procedures, i.e., lab, radiology, etc.
  12. Discharge Instructions: Review home care and discharge instructions with patient prior to discharge and document it.
  13. Equipment Setup: Set up and use all Emergency Department equipment, i.e., monitors, glucometers, stretchers, wheelchairs.
  14. Nursing Care: Provide nursing care, including splinting, bandaging, cleaning, and rendering other nursing care to patients.
  15. Department Checks: Perform and record checks for monitors, defibrillators, etc. and check and record refrigerator temperature at 7:00 a.m.
Requirements

Education and Training: Minimum Level of Education: Education level equivalent to completion of high school, and a completion of an accredited registered nursing program. Formal Training: Registered Nursing program.

Licensure and Certification: Must have and maintain a State of Georgia Registered Nurses License, Basic Healthcare BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, and NIHSS certification. Or obtain within 3 months of employment. TNCC preferred.

Work Experience: Preferred two (2) years of critical care or emergency nursing. EMT and Paramedic experience may be used to satisfy the 2 years of work experience preferred.
