Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Radiology Technologist to join our team at St. Peter's Health. As a key member of our diagnostic imaging department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the highest quality patient care and safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Verify patient identification and procedure requests or prescriptions
  • Assess patient risk for allergic reactions to medication and review lab values prior to administration
  • Explain effects and potential side effects of medications to patients
  • Prepare and administer IV and oral contrast agents
  • Monitor patients for reactions to medication and assess vital signs as needed
  • Determine the need for and select supplies, accessory equipment, shielding, and positioning and immobilization devices
  • Provide accurate explanations and instructions regarding exams and procedures
  • Educate patients about the risks and benefits of radiation
  • Position patients for anatomic areas of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort
  • Perform QA on images and ensure proper transfer to PACS
  • Select appropriate radiation exposure factors using ALARA principles
  • Employ proper radiation safety practices and use lead protective devices appropriately
  • Control access to radiation exposure areas
  • Obtain and prepare supplies, medications, and equipment for sterile and specialized radiological procedures
  • Perform procedural timeouts and explain post-procedural instructions to patients or their families
  • Comply with federal, state, local, and regulatory agency requirements
Patient Safety and Quality

Our team is committed to minimizing radiation exposure using ALARA principles, ensuring equipment safety, and promoting overall patient safety.

Departmental Responsibilities
  • Assist the lead technologist in prioritizing patient schedules and accommodating add-on exams
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and updates of protocols
  • Contribute to CQI and QA activities, as approved by the Director
  • Improve patient experience and satisfaction scores for the modality and department
  • Participate in staffing and scheduling, ensuring that schedules meet the needs of physicians and patients
  • Ensure timely and quality transfer of images and studies to PACS
  • Assist in the orientation and training of new employees
  • Develop and improve skills to co-workers
  • Share responsibility for training and readiness to comply with DNV, CMS, and other regulatory agencies
  • Communicate equipment issues to leadership and make necessary calls to vendors
  • Participate in department projects, such as ACR accreditation and Quality and Performance Improvement initiatives
