Position Summary

The Senior Custodian will execute a comprehensive range of cleaning responsibilities, either independently or collaboratively, on a daily basis within residence halls and other assigned areas. Key tasks include:

  • Dusting, cleaning, and polishing furniture, woodwork, light fixtures, blinds, cabinets, painted walls, windows, and various surfaces.
  • Disinfecting and cleaning restrooms.
  • Vacuuming carpets, upholstered furniture, bedding, and other designated materials.

Salary Range: $18.24/hr. - $23.61/hr.

Shift Hours: Variable Schedule; Day & Swing Shifts

Physical Requirements

Responsibilities include the ability to manipulate or assemble objects, lift, push, pull, or move items weighing up to 50 lbs, and wear necessary safety equipment such as gloves and eye protection. The role requires reaching, stooping, bending, and kneeling to access various areas within the facilities.

Work Environment

Successful candidates must complete a Pre-Placement Medical Exam provided by Employee Health Services. The role may involve working alone in high-traffic areas and in environments where hazardous materials are present, including custodial cleaning supplies and potential exposure to infectious materials.

It is important to note that this position requires mandatory reporting for known or suspected child abuse, necessitating a signed acknowledgment of this requirement.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Experience in custodial work.
  • Familiarity with basic custodial materials and equipment (e.g., carpet cleaners, vacuums, floor polishers).
  • Knowledge of cleaning agents, disinfectants, and related chemicals.
  • Effective communication skills for interaction with residents and staff.
  • Ability to assess the necessary tools and equipment for tasks.

Preferred:

  • Organizational skills to prioritize workload effectively.
  • Understanding of standard safety practices in custodial work.
  • Basic customer service skills for engaging with a diverse population.
