Position Summary:

The Inventory Control Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of product inventories at the St. Louis Area Foodbank through systematic cycle counting and adherence to inventory management best practices. This role is essential for maintaining effective item tracking, storage, and accountability throughout the distribution process.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop a thorough understanding of inventory management systems and software to support operational needs.
  • Collaborate with various departments to implement best practices for inventory handling, including receiving, distribution, and internal transfers.
  • Investigate inventory discrepancies, determine root causes, and work with the Inventory Control Manager and other teams to resolve issues.
  • Conduct scheduled cycle counts to verify receiving accuracy and maintain inventory integrity.
  • Perform ad-hoc cycle counts for USDA commodities and purchased goods to ensure program accountability.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate inventory documentation and reporting, providing insights for continuous improvement.
  • Review perishable and aged inventory under the guidance of the Inventory Control Manager.
  • Support the processing of food donations and act as a liaison between the Inventory Control team and other operational departments.
  • Execute additional tasks as assigned.

  • This role involves working in both office and warehouse settings, with minimal travel required.
  • Expect to spend significant time in the warehouse environment, including cold storage areas.
  • Approximately 40% to 50% of work time will be spent at a computer, with the remainder in the warehouse.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Food Defense Certification is a plus.
  • Experience operating standard warehouse equipment, including forklifts and pallet jacks, is required.
  • Proficient in computer use, including email and basic report preparation.
  • Strong skills in MS Office Suite, particularly Excel, are preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with attention to detail and maintain focus on objectives.
  • Demonstrated core values of stewardship, teamwork, agility, and respect.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Capable of working independently and collaboratively.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening and background checks.

Working Environment:

This position involves working in a warehouse with significant walking on concrete surfaces. Conditions may vary with seasonal temperatures, and employees may be exposed to cold environments, dust, and noise from operational equipment. Physical demands include lifting, bending, and moving objects weighing up to 75 pounds.
