Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Veterinary Technician II to join our team at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University. As a Veterinary Technician II, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our small animal hospital.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patient Care: Provide exceptional patient care, including monitoring, managing, and implementing treatment plans as ordered by clinicians. Collaborate with administrative and clinical care team members to coordinate and prioritize patient care.
  • Client Care: Provide excellent client service, including updating clients on their hospitalized patients, relaying messages, and facilitating timely and accurate communication between clinicians and clients.
  • Teaching: Instruct veterinary students and student technicians in all technical aspects of patient care, and assist in training, orienting, and mentoring new Veterinary Technicians.
  • Cleaning and Maintenance: Maintain adequate inventory of medical supplies and pharmaceuticals, clean and maintain related clinical areas, and facilitate the maintenance of clinical equipment.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent and 3 years of experience as a veterinary technician in a fast-paced hospital, or an Associate or Bachelor's degree from an AVMA-accredited institution providing training in veterinary technology, veterinary nursing, or veterinary science, and one year experience at a University hospital or large scale hospital, or Certified Veterinary Technician in good standing.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, strong interpersonal and communication skills, and a comprehensive understanding of medical terminology and veterinary pharmacology.
  • Ability to safely restrain cats and dogs using fear-free techniques, assess the attitude and responsiveness of dogs and cats, obtain vital signs, and identify animals in pain or distress.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two or more years of experience in a specialty practice, prior experience working in Veterinary Internal Medicine, and credentialed as a Certified Veterinary Technician or ability to become credentialed.

We offer a competitive salary range of $24.30 to $33.50 per hour, based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity. New hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
