Diagnostic Medical Sonographer

Vanderbilt University Medical Center is seeking a skilled Diagnostic Medical Sonographer to join our team. As a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, you will be responsible for using diagnostic medical equipment to diagnose various medical conditions. You will specialize in obstetric/gynecologic, abdominal, neurosonography, or breast sonography.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Reviews patient's medical history and physician's instructions
  • Prepares equipment for procedure. Selects appropriate equipment settings
  • Explains procedure to patient and records any medical history that may be relevant to the condition being viewed
  • Operates special equipment to direct nonionizing, high-frequency sound waves into areas of the patient's body
  • Views the screen during the scan, looking for visual cues that contrast healthy areas with unhealthy ones
  • Takes measurements, calculates values, and analyzes the results in preliminary reports for the physicians
  • Keeps patient records and adjusts/maintains equipment
  • Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Complies with safety, infection control and quality improvement policies/procedures

Requirements:

  • Certifications: Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer - Certification - Others
  • Work Experience: 1 year
  • Education: Graduate of an approved discipline specific program
