Job Summary

The State of California is seeking a highly skilled Recreation Therapist to join our team at the California Institution for Men. As a Recreation Therapist, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating therapeutic recreation programs for patients within our correctional facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement therapeutic recreation programs for patients, including individual and group therapy sessions
  • Monitor and document treatment progress, and work with other healthcare providers to share recreational therapy assessment information and incorporate therapeutic recreational activities into treatment plans
  • Maintain order and supervise the conduct of patients to protect and maintain the safety of persons and property
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care to patients
Requirements
  • Equivalent to graduation from a recognized college with a major in recreation or recreation therapy, including supervised field work
  • Current certification or eligibility for certification as a recreation therapist by the California Board of Recreation and Park Certification or by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification, Inc.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Working Conditions

This position requires working in a correctional facility setting, which may involve exposure to violence, trauma, and other challenging situations. The successful candidate must be able to work effectively in a high-stress environment and maintain a professional demeanor at all times.
