We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Human Resources Specialist to join our team at the City of Carson, CA. Key Responsibilities- Participate in the recruitment and selection process, including preparing and distributing job announcements and advertisements.
- Process personnel actions, such as new hires, merit increases, promotions, and terminations, in our HR system.
- Prepare, maintain, and update confidential personnel-related records and files.
- Track performance evaluations and step increase dates, and notify supervisors and managers of due performance evaluations.
- Assist in researching and assembling information for classification and compensation purposes and other personnel studies.
- Provide information to the public, other agencies, and city staff regarding HR benefits, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Perform a variety of general administrative support duties, including composing, preparing, and proofreading letters and other documents.
- Bachelor's degree in personnel or human resources administration, public administration, or a related field.
- One year of paid full-time subprofessional experience in a governmental agency's HR or personnel department.
- Knowledge of basic HR principles and practices, methods and techniques for recordkeeping, basic research methodologies, and basic functions and structure of municipal government.
- Ability to interpret policies and procedures, prepare and maintain accurate and complete records, organize and prioritize work, maintain confidentiality, operate standard office equipment, communicate effectively verbally and in writing, collect data, establish and maintain effective working relationships with others, and deal tactfully with the public.
The ideal candidate will be able to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize tasks, and maintain confidentiality. The position requires a valid California Class C driver's license and the ability to work at a computer terminal for prolonged periods.
