Drive the Development of Next-Generation Space Technology

We are seeking an experienced Sr. Propulsion Engineer to lead our team in the development and production of advanced propulsion systems at SpaceX's Raptor foundry.

This role involves owning parts and processes in the Raptor foundry operation, working closely with the shop floor team on production process improvement projects, and managing the development and process control of foundry equipment.

Responsibilities:
  • Oversight of all aspects of the Raptor foundry operation, including design, development, and production.
  • Collaboration with cross-functional teams to improve production efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Leadership in root cause investigations and process improvements to minimize defects and optimize manufacturing processes.
  • Application of DFM principles to reduce costs and improve manufacturability of new and existing investment cast parts.
  • Development of innovative solutions for complex casting designs using simulation software and first principles.
  • Management of foundry equipment maintenance and upgrades, ensuring optimal performance and minimizing downtime.
  • Creation of data analysis systems to monitor and improve manufacturing processes.
  • Implementation of safety improvements throughout the foundry, prioritizing employee well-being.
  • Development of standard procedures for novel processing techniques to enhance manufacturing efficiency.
  • Adaptation to rapidly evolving design and production challenges, driving innovation and continuous improvement.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or other relevant engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in a manufacturing environment/role, preferably in investment casting.
Preferred Skills:
  • Master's degree in materials science, chemical engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in production of investment castings.
  • Familiarity with metallic manufacturing techniques, machining, welding, brazing, and other relevant processes.
  • Process engineering experience, including root cause analysis, corrective action management, capacity modeling, and process mapping.
  • Strong understanding of materials science and metallurgy fundamentals.
  • Experience with CAD software (NX & Teamcenter) and FEA tools.
  • Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) knowledge.
  • Software development skills in SQL, Python, or C#.
Compensation and Benefits:

$145,000 - $195,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications.
