Job Summary:

As a Structural Project Engineer at Degenkolb Engineers, you will play a key role in the design and engineering of structural systems for building structures and facilities. With a focus on delivering customized structural solutions, you will work closely with clients and project teams to ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality.

Responsibilities:
  • Project Design and Engineering: Determine project design decisions based on client and project requirements, including load requirements, governing codes, architectural constraints, operational constraints, fabrication and erection requirements.
  • Structural Calculations: Apply advanced theoretical knowledge of civil and structural engineering principles and concepts to perform structural calculations and develop technical skills of junior staff.
  • Project Management: Oversee work of junior engineers, designers, and/or drafters in production of structural construction documents, including drawings, specifications, bidding, and construction administration for projects.
  • Client Relationships: Maintain close relationships with clients during project development, execution, and completion, and participate in client and design team meetings as well as plan review and approval processes.
  • Business Development: Pursue business development efforts and participate in developing client proposals, including preparing scope, budgets, and schedules for assignments.
Requirements:
  • Education: Master's Degree in Structural Engineering and relevant experience with a stable history.
  • Licenses and Certifications: California Professional Civil or Structural Engineering license, and experience in seismic design, seismic evaluation, and retrofit of existing buildings in regions of high seismicity.
  • Skills and Knowledge: Demonstrated design skills with steel, concrete, masonry, and wood structures, familiarity with California Building Codes and ASCE 41 Standards, and knowledge of modeling applications such as ETABS, RISA, RAM, Revit, MathCAD, SAP2000, AutoCAD, and Tekla.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • California Structural Engineer license.
  • Active participation in professional activities related to structural or earthquake engineering.
  • Proficiency with software programs such as Python, Rhino, or Grasshopper.
  • Experience supervising, coordinating, or mentoring junior staff.
