Job Summary

The Charge Nurse is a key member of the patient care team, responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care during their shift. This role requires strong leadership and communication skills, as well as the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct communication with the Department Director and/or House Supervisor regarding unanticipated patient care events and/or risk management activities.
  • Utilize nursing personnel effectively, assisting with required scheduling, staffing, and assignments.
  • Provide direction, supervision, and evaluation of staff, as well as staff education as necessary.
  • Assist with performance evaluations, progressive discipline of staff, and other related HR activities as needed.
  • Assess supplies and equipment availability, ensuring their proper use and functionality, and assist in the daily maintenance of par levels.
  • Collaborate with other department managers/supervisors to ensure smooth coordination of services to patients, enhanced patient flow within the facility, and efficient admission/discharge/transfer processes.
  • Assess patient care delivery and quality of care/documentation on a consistent basis, directing staff members to make immediate changes in the plan of care as necessary to ensure patient safety and adherence to regulatory guidelines, hospital policies, procedures, protocols, and/or clinical pathways.
  • Notify the Department Director, House Supervisor, and/or Medical Staff as appropriate using the chain of command.
Requirements
  • Current and valid state RN License.
  • Current BLS upon hire and maintain current.
  • Current ACLS 30 days upon hire and maintain current.
  • Previous supervisory experience, one to two years, in an acute care hospital setting, preferred.
  • Minimum of one year staff nurse in an acute care hospital setting; Critical Care setting preferred.
  • PCCN or CCRN (AACN) within 2 years of hire, preferred.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN), preferred.

A reasonable compensation estimate for this role is $43.27 to $61.82. The exact starting compensation will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire, considering a wide range of factors, including skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials, and licensure.
