Job Summary:
As a key member of the University Medical Center of El Paso team, the Director of Intensive Care Unit Operations will be responsible for planning, supervising, and evaluating patient care and nursing personnel in a clinical area on a 24-hour basis. This individual will coordinate duties for all shifts to ensure continuity of safe and quality patient care, monitor outcome measures, and share variances with associates for continuous process improvement in a clinical area. Additionally, the Director will provide clinical patient care to patients utilizing the nursing process, applying knowledge of professional nursing practice in providing age-appropriate care based on scientific principles, nursing standards of practice, and standards of patient care for patient populations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop and articulate a vision for nursing practice in a specific clinical area, translating it into actionable strategies.
2. Foster and facilitate collaborative interpersonal relationships among nursing staff, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
3. Assess risks associated with anticipated actions and develop mitigation plans.
4. Implement sound process improvement methodologies to enhance patient care and nursing operations.
5. Negotiate and resolve conflicts in a fair and respectful manner.
6. Embrace change and manage it effectively, ensuring a smooth transition for nursing staff and patients.
7. Develop and implement team-building strategies to enhance collaboration and communication among nursing staff.
8. Utilize computer systems and related software applications to support nursing operations and patient care.
9. Read and comprehend English at a level necessary to follow written and oral instructions and safety precautions.
10. Possess bilingual English/Spanish skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with patients and families.
Requirements:
1. Five years of lead/supervisory/management experience in a clinical setting, with a focus on nursing operations and patient care.
2. Current and active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas.
3. Current CPR training and ACLS certification within six months of assuming the role.
4. Attainment of one of the following approved nursing certifications within two years of being in position: Certified Critical Care Nurse (CCRN) or Nursing Executive (NE).
5. Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from an accredited institution.
