In this position, you will:
Execute all technical functions of grossing utilizing various laboratory materials and equipment.
Ensure specimen integrity upon receipt and throughout the entire process.
Document a gross description for each specimen, including but not limited to anatomical site, size, color, weight, dimensions, count, volume, cutting techniques, abnormal findings, and prepare tissue for cassettes.
Refer complex specimens to a Grossing Tech II, Supervisor, or Pathologist.Maintain precise work records.
Prepare dissected tissue specimens and place them into cassettes.
Conduct Quality Control and Quality Assurance Procedures.
May label requisitions, specimen containers, and cassettes.
Oversee laboratory equipment maintenance and track all routine maintenance and quality controls performed.
Operate, clean, and sterilize laboratory equipment, glassware, instruments, and workstations.
Dispose of hazardous chemical wastes in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
Uphold the highest level of confidentiality.
Adhere to all State, Federal, and professional regulations, as well as company and departmental policies and procedural manuals.
Qualifications:
Completion of one of the following: Associate's degree in biology or chemistry
or
successful completion of a NAACLS accredited histotechnology program
or
Associate's degree with 12 semester hours of biology or chemistry.
New York State Clinical Laboratory
Technologist/Technician
or Histological Technician license.

Additional Information:
This role will have routine access to Protected Health Information (PHI).
Employees will receive training on reasonable safeguards and are expected to maintain strict confidentiality, as well as comply with all applicable privacy and security standards.
Employees are expected to access PHI only as necessary to perform job duties.Salary starting at $45.00 per hour. Compensation is commensurate with experience; geographic differentials to the pay range may apply.
Sonic Healthcare USA reserves the right to adjust compensation above or below the posted range.
