Job Summary

Stony Brook Medicine is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Pathologists' Assistant to join our Anatomic Pathology Support team. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in maintaining and developing Grossing/Autopsy policies and procedures in accordance with regulatory agencies. Your expertise will ensure the highest standard of excellence in patient care and specimen handling.

Responsibilities
  • Preparation, gross description, and dissection of human tissue surgical specimens
  • Assure appropriate patient and specimen identification
  • Obtain pertinent clinical information, imaging studies, previous pathology reports, and slides as indicated
  • Describe gross anatomic features of surgical specimens and prepare appropriate tissues for histologic processing and light microscopy
  • Assist in gross photography and perform frozen sections
  • Conduct administrative duties such as quality assurance and supervision of residents
Requirements
  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in medicine or related field
  • Established verifiable records of satisfactory hospital experience in grossing/autopsy pathology
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, team-building, and communication skills
  • NYSED Licensure as a Pathologists' Assistant or grandfathered PA Licensure
Preferred Qualifications
  • ASCP certified as a Pathologists Assistant
  • MA degree or BS from a Pathologists' Assistant program or will graduate from an accredited Pathologists' Assistant program within the next six months
