Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Network Security Administrator to join our core network management team at North Carolina A&T State University. The successful candidate will have significant experience with firewalls, VPN systems, IDS/IPS, and related technologies, as well as a solid foundation in network security and a grasp of security standards such as ISO 27002 or NIST SP.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage network firewalls, network fabric profiles, virtual private network (VPN) systems, intrusion detection and prevention systems, and other tools used to separate and control access to network resources.
  • Play a critical role in vulnerability management and ensure timely identification and remediation of network security issues.
  • Work with IT leaders and technical staff to coordinate services, configurations, security, and upgrades to provide a high-performance and secure network for the entire university.
  • Report to the Director of Network and System Administration and be a key member of the department and the Information Technology Services (ITS) operations and security teams as well as the division's technical staff.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or a related field with three (2) years' experience in server management and security, with primary responsibility for network security roles, with primary responsibility for network security in an enterprise setting, including experience with XMC and Extreme NAC, Palo Alto firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, SIEM tools, Nessus, or similar applications, or bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or a related field with three (2) years' experience in these areas.
  • Significant technical knowledge of networks and network security.
  • Knowledge of common security standards such as ISO 27002, NIST SP, or PCI DSS.
  • Ability to create and follow complex technical policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Ability to apply in-depth technical knowledge and troubleshooting techniques to resolve issues.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Five (5) years of experience in network security roles using the tools listed under required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • An advanced degree and/or certification related to the duties and responsibilities of the position.
  • Experience managing Security Onion SIEM and Zeek IDS/IPS.
  • Experience with CrowdStrike EDR, Defender DLP, and PAM systems.
  • Experience with vulnerability management, incident response, forensics, and evidence handling.
  • Experience with project management principles.
  • Knowledge of FERPA, HIPAA, and CJIS Security Policy requirements and controls.
  • Experience with basic scripting using languages such as PowerShell, C, Python, Perl, or bash.
  • Experience with open-source management and security tools, and network scanning tools.
