Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Technologist to join our team at Corewell Health. As a Medical Technologist, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality laboratory services to our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform a variety of routine and specialized tests and procedures to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
  • Independently perform chemical, hematologic, microscopic, morphologic immunologic, and/or microbiologic procedures using laboratory instruments or manual techniques.
  • Apply advanced knowledge, training, and clinical judgment to release quality patient test results, evaluate instrument performance, and correlate results with other laboratory data.
  • Standardize, calibrate, and perform preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment and instruments.
  • Assist in the development and design of new test procedures and methodologies, and participate in the evaluation and introduction of new instruments or procedures.
  • Participate in the instruction of clinical laboratory science to students, residents, and new employees, and attend and participate in department continuing education and in-service training programs.
  • Participate in quality assurance and regulatory agency activities, including performance of proficiency testing, involvement in TQM/CQI committees, and development of quality assurance monitors.
Requirements
  • Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university with 16 semester hours in biology and 16 semester hours in chemistry.
  • Completion of a clinical laboratory approved or accredited program by NAACLS or at least three months documented laboratory training in each specialty in which the individual performs high complexity testing.
  • Clinical internship proof of completion.
  • Official ASCP BOC approval confirming eligibility to take the certification exam.
Working Conditions

This position requires considerable walking and standing, and occasional light lifting to store supplies. The work environment is a clinical laboratory and may involve hazardous reagents and infectious materials.
