Job Summary

The State of Montana is seeking a highly skilled AIS Prevention Specialist to manage the watercraft inspection supervisory staff and ensure the implementation of the AIS watercraft inspection and decontamination program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of the watercraft inspection station supervisors, ensuring effective and efficient operations.
  • Coordinate and manage the distribution of equipment, including paperwork, tablets, Mifis, manuals, and other necessary materials.
  • Develop and implement training programs for area supervisors and inspectors, ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties.
  • Evaluate station operations and logistics for improvement, identifying areas for growth and development.
  • Support data management and WID mobile application for effectiveness, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
  • Review and implement QAQC procedures with the AIS coordinator and area supervisors, ensuring high-quality results.
  • Support improvements in inspection station protocols and reporting, ensuring compliance with state regulations.
  • Support AIS outreach and education efforts, promoting awareness and prevention of aquatic invasive species.
  • Prepare for and respond to rapid response efforts, working closely with the Prevention Coordinator, Bureau Chief, and fisheries divisions.
  • Support AIS coordinator with Law Enforcement at stations, ensuring effective collaboration and communication.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology, Fish and Wildlife Management, Aquatic Ecology, or closely related field.
  • At least 2 years of job-related experience in Aquatic invasive species management, fish and wildlife management, watercraft inspection management, and staff supervision.
  • Computer software training required, including Excel, MS Word, and Access.
  • Strong interpersonal, administrative, supervisory, budgeting, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage several large complex projects at once, with a focus on detail and accuracy.
  • Understanding of Montana laws associated with fish and wildlife transport and importation.
