About the Department
The Security Risk team, a vital part of the Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) division within the Security organization at HashiCorp, is tasked with overseeing security risk management. This team is responsible for establishing the security risk management framework, implementing it effectively, and managing security risks both internally and with third-party vendors.
We are seeking a seasoned security risk management professional with extensive experience in large-scale risk management within established environments. This position offers a unique opportunity to significantly influence the development and operationalization of our security risk management program. The selected candidate will play a crucial role in shaping the risk management framework, assessing security risks, and providing comprehensive tracking, reporting, and communication regarding security risks.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and enhance the internal and vendor security risk framework, program, and associated processes.
- Establish, standardize, and educate stakeholders on risk terminology and classification.
- Develop and continuously refine risk scoring methodologies.
- Conduct and facilitate security risk assessments for both internal operations and vendor partnerships.
- Review new risk submissions and guide them through the risk management lifecycle.
- Monitor progress on risk treatment initiatives and provide status reports.
- Maintain an up-to-date security risk register.
- Communicate risk status and trends to stakeholders across the organization.
- Define, monitor, and report on Key Risk Indicators (KRIs).
- Contribute to the development of the HashiCorp Common Controls Framework.
- Assist in the planning and execution of quarterly and annual risk program initiatives.
- Track progress against Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) and the risk program roadmap.
- Support additional GRC activities as required, including external security audits.
Essential Qualifications
- A minimum of 6 years of experience in risk management, with at least 3 years focused on security risk management.
- Strong familiarity with cloud environments, particularly AWS.
- Extensive hands-on experience with recognized risk management frameworks or standards (e.g., FAIR, ISO 31000, ISO 27005, RMF).
- Proven ability to ask insightful questions and grasp complex technical subjects.
- Solid understanding of current cybersecurity threats and tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs).
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
- Collaborative and highly responsive team player.
- Willingness to adapt working hours during peak periods and audits.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in a technology or SaaS company in a similar capacity.
- Experience in risk engineering and utilizing data for informed risk decision-making.
- Proficiency in quantitatively assessing security risks.
- Background in risk management across various industries (e.g., finance, insurance, aerospace).
- Familiarity with risk management tools and platforms.
