Job Summary

The Neonatal Advanced Practice Provider (APP) plays a vital role in providing high-quality patient care services to infants in the specialized neonatal units at Duke University Health System. This position requires a strong foundation in neonatal care, with the ability to perform physical exams, collect and document data, and conduct diagnostic and therapeutic procedures under the supervision of a supervisory physician.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care services to infants in the Intensive Care Nurseries, Intermediate Care Nurseries, and Special Care Nurseries
  • Perform physical exams, collect and document data, and conduct diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
  • Order and schedule laboratory studies and professional consultations, and prescribe appropriate interventions and medications
  • Contribute to excellence in patient care, research, teaching, and leadership in the organization
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited MSN or DNP Neonatal or Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Program (NP) or Master's Degree Physician Assistant Program plus a Neonatal APP Fellowship (PA)
  • Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) or Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP-AC) certification (NP) or PA-C certification (PA)
  • BLS and NRP certification mandatory before hire
  • RN license issued by NCBON with approval to practice as NPP (NP) or NCMB issued license to practice in NC (PA)
  • Fed & State DEA license
  • 3 years RN experience as neonatal nurse, 1-year NNP/PNP experience preferred (NP) or 1 year PA experience thru neonatal fellowship or as neonatal provider (PA)
Work Environment

The Neonatal APP will work in a fast-paced environment, providing care to critically ill infants. The primary hours will be rotational, covering 24 hours/7 days per week, including nights, weekends, and holidays. The position requires flexibility to provide on-call coverage, as needed.
