Critical Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant

Duke University is seeking a highly skilled Critical Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our team in the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU). As a member of our interdisciplinary team, you will provide high-quality patient care to critically ill cardiothoracic surgery patients, working closely with cardiothoracic surgeons, cardiac anesthesiologists, and intensivists to develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
Responsibilities- Provide direct patient care services, including physical exams, data collection, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and medication management.
- Collaborate with the cardiothoracic surgeon, cardiac anesthesiologist, and intensivist to develop and implement treatment plans.
- Perform procedures such as intubation, extubation, airway management, and chest tube insertion.
- Manage acute cardio and respiratory decompensation, including rapid response and code situations.
- Develop patient care pathways, protocols, and guidelines for the management of specific problems.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, visitors, healthcare team members, and other stakeholders.
- Graduate of an accredited MSN or DNP Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program or an accredited Masters or Doctorate Degree Physician Assistant Program.
- Unrestricted RN license issued by or recognized by the NCBON with authorization to practice as a NP or unrestricted medical license issued by the NCMB with authorization to practice as a PA.
- Federal and State DEA prescriptive authority.
- ACNP or AGACNP certification for NPs or PA-C certification for PAs.
- 1 year experience in high acuity adult CTICU/ICU or 1 year experience as a PA in an adult high acuity critical care/CTICU setting or a 1-year Critical Care Fellowship.
