We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Respiratory Therapy Intern to join our team at Yale New Haven Health. As a Respiratory Therapy Intern, you will play a critical role in supporting the overall operations of the Respiratory Department.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain respiratory equipment, including cleaning and disinfecting, assembly and testing, and notifying biomedical engineering of broken or malfunctioning equipment.
- Manage oxygen tank orders, replacement, equipment setup, and delivery.
- Ensure adequate respiratory supplies are available at all times.
- Communicate effectively with respiratory practitioners regarding equipment and departmental needs.
- Assist therapists with transporting mechanically ventilated patients and respond to equipment requests to ensure an efficient and orderly process.
- Respond promptly to calls, as observed by a supervisor or therapist.
- Provide continuity of patient care and clinical operational support under the direction of a Licensed Respiratory Therapist and in accordance with departmental guidelines.
- Support clinical and patient care under the scope of respiratory care, in accordance with departmental competency validation.
- Demonstrate competency and clinical acumen of respiratory care theories, concepts, and best practices.
- Perform EKGs.
- Maintain current and active required credentials, such as BLS and ACLS.
- Perform other duties as assigned to ensure smooth operation of the department/unit.
- High School Graduate or equivalent.
- Current and active enrollment in a CoArc-approved Respiratory Therapy Program, with a minimum of one year of clinical and didactical completion.
- Minimum of one year of experience in a respiratory care setting.
- None at the time of hire, but must gain the credential of Registered Respiratory Therapist before progressing into a respiratory therapy position.
