FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Typical Workdays: Monday to Friday with occasional weekends

Typical Work Hours: 40 hours per week with potential overtime for travel or customer site work

Position Overview

  • The Machinery Assembly Specialist will directly report to the Manufacturing Supervisor and will be responsible for planning, organizing, and executing all stages of machinery assembly. This role involves collaboration with the engineering team and Project Managers to ensure that all components are assembled correctly to enhance system efficiency.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and execute all stages of machinery assembly.
  • Assemble, troubleshoot, modify, and install custom-designed machinery.
  • Integrate purchased mechanical parts, manufactured details, and sub-assemblies to build automated machinery for specialized applications.
  • Conduct critical precision alignments and setups of mechanical components and systems, ensuring setup integrity.
  • Install pneumatic components and subsystems according to provided schematics and specifications, plumbing, testing, and optimizing system performance for cycle time and equipment durability.
  • Identify technical issues with supplied materials, components, and equipment.
  • Detect and rectify mechanical deficiencies in the assembly and accurately document as-built modifications.
  • Collaborate with engineering, electrical, and controls departments to ensure project completion.
  • Participate in equipment disassembly and packaging at the initial assembly site and reassemble and test at customer locations as needed.
  • Identify all tools, fasteners, and miscellaneous items required for efficient task completion and work with the Project Manager to secure all necessary materials promptly.
  • Lead the machinery troubleshooting efforts.
  • Follow company safety protocols to maintain a safe working environment for all employees.

Qualifications

  • Journeyman experience or relevant background as a toolmaker/machine builder.
  • Proven experience in assembling equipment utilizing technologies such as robotic systems, high-speed indexing, pneumatic actuators, servo motors, hydraulics, and power transmission.
  • Familiarity with modern electrical control technologies applicable to automated equipment (e.g., PLCs, HMIs, safety devices, and instrumentation).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting abilities related to machinery and equipment.
  • Proficient in operating milling machines, lathes, and surface grinders.
  • Ability to weld common metals (MIG/TIG) encountered in machinery assembly is advantageous.
  • Skilled in using rigging equipment, including cranes and forklifts.
  • Knowledgeable in Machinery Safeguarding Principles and Standards relevant to production work cells, with the ability to identify and rectify deficiencies.
  • Good understanding of pneumatic/hydraulic control circuits.
  • Willingness to work overtime as necessary.
  • Occasionally assist with equipment installation and startup at customer sites.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform under tight deadlines; flexibility and adaptability to work extended hours or alternate shifts as project schedules require.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently lift weights of 50-75 pounds.
  • Regularly carry a tool bag to the workstation.
  • Frequently stand for extended periods; regularly required to walk.
  • Consistently bend, stoop, reach, twist, crawl under/over, and push/pull.
  • Regularly climb ladders and work in confined spaces.

Education

  • Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience

  • Required: Minimum of 5 years' experience in machinery assembly, preferably in the automotive sector, with experience in a high-speed manufacturing environment being a plus.
