Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Librarian Media Specialist to join our team at Hays CISD. The successful candidate will be responsible for directing the operation of the school library/media center, providing services and resources that enable students to develop essential skills in information literacy and research.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide group instruction and individual guidance to students and other library users to facilitate effective resource utilization and research techniques.
  • Collaborate with teachers to convey appropriate use of materials and schedule materials for classroom instructional use, promoting the strategic use of video programming and other print and digital media for educational purposes.
  • Design, develop, and present staff development for teachers on the availability and use of campus and district learning resources.
  • Plan and implement an effective school library program that meets identified needs, creating a library/media center environment conducive to learning and tailored to the maturity level and interests of students.
  • Make recommendations for acquisitions and manage the processing, organizing, distribution, maintenance, and inventory of library/media resources.
  • Assist teachers in preparation of curriculum guides, lesson plans, and bibliographies, and develop and maintain up-to-date resource files, including instructional program schedules and other community resources.
  • Use effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement and develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the library/media center program, making changes based on findings.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in library and information science from an accredited college or university (for individuals certified after January 23, 2001)
  • Valid Texas school librarian certificate or endorsement
  • Three years' experience in library/media center in public school setting
Working Conditions

The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced environment, requiring strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. The position involves frequent interaction with students, teachers, and community members, as well as regular use of standard office equipment, library equipment, and instructional materials.
