Position Overview

As a Retail Sales Associate, also referred to as a Generalist colleague, you play a crucial role in delivering the Macy's experience, with a focus on customer satisfaction. Your keen awareness of customer preferences and the knowledge you gain about Macy's products and services will enable you to create outstanding experiences for every shopper you meet. By assisting your team in achieving sales targets through consistently excellent service, your positive and inviting demeanor will resonate throughout your area. Your Responsibilities
  • Welcome and engage with customers in a sincere and friendly manner, demonstrating appreciation for their presence and ensuring a positive experience.
  • Suggest products by asking insightful questions to uncover customer needs and inspire purchases with fresh offerings that resonate with them.
  • Provide options and solutions to customers to facilitate the completion of their purchases.
  • Conclude the shopping experience by celebrating customer purchases and sharing in their excitement.
  • Acquire in-depth knowledge of store products, services, loyalty programs, and Macy's sales systems to assist customers effectively and recommend additional items.
  • Uphold department recovery standards, ensuring the sales floor and fitting rooms are well-maintained.
  • Deliver optimal merchandise presentation, guarantee accurate pricing, and process markdowns promptly and correctly.
Essential Skills
  • Product Knowledge: Solid understanding of the merchandise being sold, enabling you to provide expert guidance to customers based on their preferences and choices.
  • Communication: Comfortable interacting with customers through various channels, including in-person, phone, and virtual communication.
  • Sales Acumen: Ability to build rapport with customers, meet sales objectives, and engage in promotional events.
  • Technological Proficiency: Utilize point-of-sale technology and applications to assist in selling and fulfilling customer orders.
  • Commitment to Learning: Self-motivated to stay updated on product knowledge and trends, and actively participate in Macy's training resources.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal abilities, allowing you to collaborate effectively with colleagues across various levels and departments.
  • Team Collaboration: Work in partnership with the entire team to drive sales and enhance the customer experience.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods (at least two consecutive hours) throughout the store or department.
  • Frequent use of computers and handheld electronic devices.
  • Capable of reaching, including above eye level, crouching, kneeling, and distinguishing colors.
  • This role involves lifting, moving, standing, reaching with arms and hands, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders.
  • Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 30 lbs.
