ROLE OVERVIEW:
The Clinical Nursing Manager plays a vital role within the management team, assisting the Nurse Manager in overseeing the daily functions of the nursing unit or department around the clock.

This position entails direct supervision of nursing staff, with potential requirements to work weekends, holidays, and various shifts to ensure consistent management presence as per departmental demands.

The Clinical Nursing Manager is involved in staff recruitment and performance evaluations, scheduling, coaching, and ensuring compliance with clinical and financial standards.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide leadership to unit-based teams, including performance improvement and committee initiatives.
  • Coordinate and deliver direct patient care while supporting the Nurse Manager.
  • Act as a leadership figure during the Nurse Manager's absence.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must hold a valid Registered Nurse license in the State of Ohio.
  • BLS and ACLS certifications are mandatory.
  • A graduate of an accredited nursing program is required.
  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is required or must be obtained within three years.


EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of three years of professional nursing experience demonstrating administrative and supervisory capabilities.
  • Proficiency in computer applications is essential.


DECISION-MAKING AND PROBLEM SOLVING:

Utilizes established policies and collaborates with team members to make informed decisions. This role requires sound judgment in selecting appropriate actions and adapting standard practices to evolving situations.


IMPACT AND ACCOUNTABILITY:

This position influences multiple operational areas daily and regularly contributes to the decision-making process.


INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

Exhibits team leadership by mentoring and training colleagues. Addresses complex inquiries from individuals who may lack expertise in specific areas, fostering collaboration and consensus.


PATIENT CARE MANAGEMENT:

Oversees the quality of care delivered on the unit, ensuring management visibility through rotating shifts and weekends. Demonstrates clinical proficiency in nursing practices and ensures adherence to established standards.


QUALITY IMPROVEMENT AND PATIENT SAFETY:

Conducts patient rounds to gather data, assess care quality, and resolve issues. Maintains awareness of and compliance with regulatory, safety, legal, and ethical standards.


LEADERSHIP AND COMMUNICATION:

Assists the Nurse Manager in fostering effective communication with all stakeholders. Organizes and delegates unit activities fairly and consistently, showcasing effective problem-solving abilities.


PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:

Actively engages in departmental initiatives and maintains clinical expertise to serve as a role model for staff. Supports Magnet principles and promotes professional growth.


STAFF MANAGEMENT:

Participates in the recruitment and selection of nursing staff. Provides guidance and support in performance evaluations, recognizing achievements and addressing areas for improvement.


BUDGET MANAGEMENT:

Adheres to budgetary guidelines and assists in establishing staffing and delivery standards within set parameters. Identifies opportunities for enhancing cost-effective care delivery.
