In the role of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technologist, you will conduct MRI examinations on a diverse patient population, including outpatients, inpatients, and pediatric cases. You will support the MRI Imaging Center Leader in ensuring smooth daily operations across various imaging facilities. As a subject matter expert, you will guide fellow technologists and students in MR scanning techniques across multiple categories, including neuroradiology, musculoskeletal, abdominal, breast, pediatric, cardiac, and MR-guided procedures. Your responsibilities will include reviewing MRI patient safety protocols prior to examinations and ensuring all procedures are executed safely. You will also assess MRI requisitions for clinical details before presenting them to the radiologist for appropriate imaging protocols. The MRI Technologist will evaluate images for quality, formatting, and labeling before submission for interpretation, and perform imaging protocols under the direction of the Radiologist. Participation in departmental meetings to discuss enhancements in procedures, quality of examinations, and patient throughput will also be part of your duties, along with providing coverage for the imaging team leader when necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct MR scans in accordance with established training and competency standards.
- Demonstrate knowledge of and apply appropriate care protocols for patients across all age groups.
- Review requisitions to confirm correct examinations are scheduled and allocated adequate time.
- Coordinate examinations requiring direct involvement from Radiologists and assess completed exams for quality assurance.
- Communicate with Radiologists regarding any images that require repetition and the necessary technical adjustments.
- Ensure accurate data entry into the Radiology Information System (RIS) and verify all exams are properly documented.
- Maintain accurate records in the patient exam log, conducting regular audits and archiving in relevant systems.
- Report any equipment malfunctions to the appropriate personnel.
- Educate colleagues on PACS operations and assist with updates to the RIS.
- Foster effective collaboration with physician leadership within the MRI section.
- Serve as a primary contact for inquiries related to MRI procedures and concerns.
- Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, radiologists, and Imaging Team Leaders to prioritize daily workloads.
- Ensure the safety of patients and non-radiology staff in proximity to the MRI scanner.
- Engage in continuing education to maintain necessary accreditation.
- Perform daily quality assurance scans to verify system functionality.
- Ensure routine preventive maintenance is conducted as scheduled.
- Regularly inspect RF coils for damage and report necessary repairs.
Qualifications Required:
- Formal training in MR scanning with the ability to apply knowledge of physics and system hardware/software for optimal image quality.
- Proven competency in performing high-quality MR examinations and educating peers on MRI equipment usage.
- Progressively advanced experience as an MRI technologist.
- Proficient in various imaging applications, including MRA, Peripheral, post-processing, Cardiac, Pediatric, Neuroradiology, abdominal, musculoskeletal, thoracic, procedural, and breast imaging.
- Knowledgeable resource for technical operations within the MRI Department, including PACS, EPIC, and Radiant systems.
- Current ARRT (MR) registry (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists).
- Advanced certification (MR) from an accredited board (must achieve ARRT certification within one year of hire if not certified at the time of hire).
- Current CPR certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least two years of full-time MRI experience.
