Licensed Practical Nurse

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our team as a Substitute LPN. As a Substitute LPN, you will provide nursing care to students under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse. Your primary responsibility will be to maintain student health records, assess the health needs of students, and provide first aid or referrals as needed.
Key Responsibilities- Provide nursing care as delegated by the school nurse and as outlined in individual health care plans.
- Maintain student health records, create new records, update health information, and ensure that health records are maintained in a confidential manner.
- Assess student health needs, provide basic first aid, and refer students to healthcare professionals as needed.
- Administer medication to students as directed by a physician, according to district policy and procedures, and under the supervision of a registered nurse.
- Maintain inventory of health room supplies, prepare supply orders, receive, verify, and stock supplies.
- Monitor student behavior in the health room, correct behavior as necessary, and monitor individual health room use to prevent abuses.
- Report situations such as pregnancy, substance abuse, or physical abuse to appropriate school staff for follow-up.
- Attend scheduled health clerk meetings/inservice.
- LPN license required.
- Previous experience in healthcare strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated record-keeping skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and basic medical procedures.
- Keyboarding skill.
- Ability to deal with students in a warm and confident manner.
- Ability to work effectively as a team member and collaborate in providing services to students.
- Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to organize activities and work independently.
- Ability to follow and give instructions.
- Ability to learn and apply a variety of health techniques and procedures.
- Ability to be fair and consistent when working with students.
- Ability to screen and treat minor student illnesses and injuries.
- Ability to evaluate the need for and secure medical attention by trained personnel.
- Ability to handle crises effectively.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Ability to supervise and correct student behavior.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students, and parents.
This position requires frequent interruptions, dealing with a wide range of student behaviors and academic abilities, and potentially exposed to ordinary infectious diseases carried by students. The ability to shift tasks and priorities, deal with situations that could put them in a position of liability, and maintain confidentiality is essential.
