School Library Facilitator
Position Overview
This role requires attendance during term time only, Monday to Friday, from 8am to 4pm.
Range 3 signifies a role that includes management responsibilities and accountability for delivering professional support services. The impact of this position typically extends beyond the immediate work area or professional domain, necessitating collaboration with other staff members or school community members to achieve specific goals, particularly in school administration, operations, or educational initiatives.
While direction on objectives and targets is provided, the role allows for some discretion in determining the methods to achieve these goals. This discretion is generally bounded by established procedures and school policies, with any deviations requiring guidance from senior management.
At this level, the role encompasses business management responsibilities, including staff management to meet expected outcomes. Issues related to staff management will be addressed with minimal input from senior management, although assistance will be sought for more complex situations. Senior management will receive timely reports and advice, typically limited to matters concerning the immediate work area, service delivery, or educational programs, and is unlikely to significantly affect overall school operations.
This position represents the minimum range for roles that necessitate a mandatory qualification of at least four years. Professional support roles, such as therapists and psychologists, are also characteristic of this level, where standard professional services are provided. Close professional support and guidance will be available, and any deviations from established procedures and school policies will require direction from senior management.
An education support class position aids in delivering educational services to students but must not involve teaching duties as defined in the relevant education legislation. Supervision of students is not a requirement unless it is integral to the employee's role or involves overseeing students individually or in small groups under controlled circumstances, with the responsibility for students remaining clearly with a teacher.
Key Responsibilities
· Organize, categorize, and catalog incoming resources according to type and relevant categories using the Library Management System.
· Create descriptive lists of resources and carry out accessioning procedures, including boxing, labeling, shelving resources, and maintaining loan records.
· Perform basic maintenance duties concerning the library space, including furniture arrangement, retrieving, shelving, and conducting stocktakes of books and periodicals.
· Keep current knowledge of children's resources to assist classes in selecting reading materials and sourcing engaging, age-appropriate fiction collections.
· Design and implement displays and exhibitions within the library and school to enhance engagement.
· Assist in organizing extracurricular activities such as book week and events promoting community engagement.
· Ensure that storage areas are maintained in a clean, safe, and orderly manner.
· Label, cover, assemble, and sort books/resources in accordance with school procedures.
· Oversee the library space, managing all tasks related to its ongoing operations.
· Manage and oversee the library budget in collaboration with the literacy coordinator.
· Provide training and support to students and staff as necessary.
· Conduct small group reading sessions with students.
· Supervise small groups of students engaged in various projects or programs.
· Coordinate parent support initiatives.
· Support initiatives from the School Council sub-committee.
· Assist in fostering strong connections with the local community.
· Note that this list of duties is not exhaustive.

Applicants seeking part-time employment are encouraged to apply for any teaching service position and may request a reduced time fraction if selected. Such requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis, subject to the operational needs of the school.
