Job Summary

The Community Lending Officer is a key role at Northwest Bank, responsible for driving growth and profitability by developing and expanding customer relationships and retention. This position requires a strong understanding of banking industry laws, regulations, and the retail origination process, as well as excellent sales and networking skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Proactively solicit and originate new CRA qualifying residential mortgage and small business relationships through internal and external sources.
  • Provide financial education and work with non-profit and professional organizations, local, state, and federal agencies to promote homeownership, small business, and community development opportunities.
  • Advise customers on deposit products and services offered by the bank and promote the growth and profitability of the bank.
  • Develop and maintain successful relationships with internal and external referral sources, including community organizations, MLOs, commercial and small business lenders.
  • Prospect new mortgage, small business, community development loans and facilitate communication activities with customers and referral sources during the loan origination process.
  • Review applications, credit files, and customer qualifications to determine appropriate loan products and pricing.
  • Counsel and coach loan applicants to assist them in achieving their goals and delivering the best loan products for their needs.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of loan products, including conventional, portfolio, FHA, VA, USDA-Rural Housing programs, and secondary market rules.
  • Achieve production and quality goals, and cross-sell other Northwest products and services to loan applicants.
  • Ensure compliance with Northwest's policies and procedures, and Federal/State regulations.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, or related subject, or equivalent experience.
  • 3-5 years of mortgage origination or sales experience, 3-5 years of lending/banking experience, and 3-5 years of supervisory experience.
  • Excellent sales and networking skills, ability to establish effective working relationships, and present and express ideas clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to actively listen, make right decisions, and practice good judgment in gray areas.
  • Knowledge of banking industry laws, regulations, and the retail origination process, as well as Ellie Mae-Encompass Loan Origination software, Freddie Mac - Loan Product Advisor, and Optimal Blue pricing engine.
