The Security Operations Specialist (SOS) will deliver essential support by monitoring and managing Personnel Security processes for approximately 6,000 Department of the Air Force (DAF) military personnel monthly as they navigate through the onboarding and training phases. The SOS will also provide administrative assistance to the Sensitive Skills Branch at the 2nd Air Force Technical Training Operations Center.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The SOS will ensure professional and effective administrative services are provided to track and manage security concerns throughout the onboarding and training phases until personnel reach their assigned duty stations.
  • The SOS will review security databases to monitor requests for information and customer service inquiries.
  • The SOS will access systems to track security clearances and respond to inquiries from various Department of Defense (DoD) agencies, coordinating with training unit leaders and other relevant entities.
  • The SOS will ensure that each new accession is assigned to the appropriate Security Management Office (SMO) in the Defense Information System for Security (DISS). The SOS will oversee the Air Force Recruiting Information Support System-Total Force (AFRISS-TF) for accession activities and take necessary actions in DISS to ensure proper assignment.
  • The SOS will manage Continuous Vetting (CV) notifications, coordinating with training units to notify individuals and gather required documentation within specified timeframes.
  • The SOS will format documents according to agency requirements and transmit necessary information to the requesting agency, assisting in the evaluation of both favorable and adverse information.
  • During training, the SOS will report security incidents, collect required documentation, ensure proper formatting, and upload information into DISS.
  • The Security Operations Specialist will prepare weekly separation reports and verify investigation statuses in DISS.
  • The SOS will request investigation cancellations and submit separation reports to relevant authorities.
  • The SOS will manage the out-processing of accessions in DISS and track progress through training via SharePoint dashboards. Upon completion of training, the SOS will facilitate the transfer of accessions to the SMO at their permanent duty station.
  • The SOS will provide weekly statistics on CV notifications, information requests, and DISS processing actions as required by higher command, along with ad-hoc reports when requested.
  • The SOS will compile lessons learned reports at the end of the initial performance period, detailing processes utilized and insights gained.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively, maintain attention to detail, and oversee electronic security systems.
  • Strong organizational and file management skills, with the capacity to execute administrative tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Three to five years of relevant experience in security operations.
  • Completion of personnel security training courses from the Center for Development of Security Excellence (CDSE).
  • Possession of a final U.S. Government issued Secret security clearance.
  • Completion of online and on-the-job orientation as mandated by the Government within the specified timeframe.
