Job Overview

This pivotal role within the Transportation Department will engage regularly with the Transportation Director, Team Leaders, and other senior executives at Fishbeck. The position offers substantial opportunities for professional development and ownership within the firm. The Transportation Department is a key division at Fishbeck, comprising over 80 professionals, operating across multiple states, and generating significant annual revenue.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee ongoing bridge projects, ensuring timely and comprehensive submissions to relevant transportation authorities. Mentor and guide bridge engineers throughout the planning process.
  • Supervise and train bridge design engineers responsible for creating contract plans and specifications for various bridge types and related structures, providing design support during construction phases.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with transportation agency leaders to gather insights on upcoming bridge projects, positioning Fishbeck favorably for future pursuits.
  • Collaborate with other consultants and partners, contributing to strategic teaming arrangements for project bids.
  • Work alongside the marketing team and other stakeholders to lead proposal efforts for transportation projects. Once selected, develop comprehensive project proposals in line with agency guidelines.
  • Additional duties may include:
    • Support marketing initiatives and the development of the Fishbeck Bridge/Transportation Business Plan.
    • Lead Fishbeck's efforts in securing MDOT Program Manager projects and Design-Build Contracts.
    • Represent Fishbeck at industry events and professional organizations to strengthen client relationships.
    • Utilize established connections to foster municipal and private project opportunities.
  • Assist in recruiting top talent for the transportation division.
Physical Requirements

Occasional light lifting, sitting, and walking. Fieldwork is required, necessitating access to project sites and computer usage. Travel to project locations is essential. Proficiency in communication and documentation equipment is necessary. Visual acuity is required for performing job responsibilities.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.

Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is mandatory.
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in bridge engineering, particularly with MDOT and LAP projects.
  • Familiarity with AASHTO LRFD and LFD Bridge Design Specifications is essential.
  • Experience with design software such as Microstation and AutoCAD/Civil 3D is advantageous.
  • Proven experience in leading design teams and mentoring junior engineers.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the MDOT Bridge Design Manual, Standard Specifications for Construction, and project development processes is required.
  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary bridge design projects effectively.
