Job Overview

This pivotal role within the Transportation Division will engage with the Transportation Director, Team Leaders, and other senior executives at Fishbeck. This position offers significant opportunities for professional advancement and ownership within the organization. The Transportation Division is one of the largest sectors at Fishbeck, employing over 80 professionals across three states and generating annual revenues of $24 million.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee ongoing bridge projects, ensuring timely and comprehensive submissions to relevant transportation authorities. Mentor and guide bridge engineers throughout the planning process.
  • Supervise, manage, and provide training to bridge design engineers responsible for creating contract plans and specifications for various bridge types, including highway, railroad, and pedestrian bridges, as well as related structures.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with transportation authority leaders to gain insights into upcoming bridge projects, positioning Fishbeck favorably for future pursuits.
  • Collaborate with other consultants and partners, contributing to strategic teaming arrangements for project pursuits.
  • Work alongside the marketing team and other stakeholders to lead proposal efforts for transportation authorities. Upon project selection, develop Fishbeck's priced proposal in alignment with agency guidelines.
  • Additional duties may include:
    • Support marketing initiatives related to bridge design and the implementation of the Fishbeck Bridge/Transportation Business Strategy.
    • Lead Fishbeck's positioning for Program Manager projects and Design-Build Contracts.
    • Represent Fishbeck at industry events and professional organizations to cultivate and maintain client relationships.
    • Utilize established relationships to generate municipal and private sector projects with both new and existing clients.
  • Assist in recruiting new talent for Fishbeck's transportation services.
Physical Requirements

Occasional light lifting, sitting, and walking are required. Duties will involve fieldwork, necessitating access to project sites and the use of a computer. Travel to and from project locations is essential. Proficiency in communication and documentation equipment is necessary, along with visual acuity for task execution.

Educational Background

Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering

Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is mandatory.
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in bridge engineering roles, particularly with transportation authorities.
  • Familiarity with AASHTO LRFD and LFD Bridge Design Specifications is essential.
  • Experience with design software such as Microstation, AutoCAD/Civil 3D is advantageous.
  • Proven leadership in managing design teams and mentoring junior engineers.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the MDOT Bridge Design Manual, Standard Specifications for Construction, and project development processes.
  • Ability to lead multi-disciplinary bridge design projects effectively.
