Overview:

The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) delivers expert nursing care to ensure the comfort and health of patients. The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) prepares necessary tools and supports physicians during assessments and treatments. The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) administers prescribed medications, performs dressing changes, cleans wounds, and monitors patient vital signs. The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) observes and maintains detailed records on patient care, conditions, reactions, and progress.

The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) plays a vital role as the primary nurse, associate nurse, team member, or team leader in the planning and execution of patient care. The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) directs and assists in implementing safe aseptic techniques and procedures. The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) provides leadership and guidance to all support personnel within the department.

Department Insights:

Our Medical Surgical department typically manages an average daily patient count of 14, addressing a diverse range of medical conditions such as Pneumonia, Cellulitis, COPD, Diabetes, Heart Failure, Renal Failure, Chest Pain, and Liver Failure. We foster a collaborative environment where team members support one another and work together towards a common vision. Nurses in our unit hold each other accountable and are empowered to initiate changes through our active shared governance. We engage in community initiatives to educate the local population on preventive care and collaborate with local leaders to provide essential resources to our community. We also welcome and mentor new graduate nurses from local educational institutions as well as newcomers to the area.

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program. Ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care.
  • Preferred one year of nursing experience.
  • Current RN License in the state of Texas.
  • CPR certification (American Heart Association).
  • ACLS certification (American Heart Association) within six months of hire/transfer.
  • PALS certification (American Heart Association) within eighteen months of hire/transfer.
  • NIHSS certification required within ninety days of hire/transfer.
