This position offers a Hybrid work schedule (3 or more days on-site each week) and is based out of our Clarksville, TN location.

The Senior Mechanical Engineer - Airflow role is integral to the product development team, collaborating closely with product management and operations to design competitive solutions for Trane Commercial Unitary Packaged and Split System equipment, catering to the needs of demanding clients such as large retail chains, educational institutions, and dining establishments. The ideal candidate will possess the expertise to lead product design initiatives, oversee validation testing, identify root causes for quality and reliability challenges, interpret technical standards, and execute projects in alignment with established engineering practices.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Guide project teams or sub-teams in the development, testing, and maintenance of Unitary products, focusing on fans, motors, and air movement technologies.
  • Assess and comprehend the technical feasibility of product and internal requirements.
  • Facilitate concept generation, selection, testing, analysis, and interface optimization in collaboration with Subject Matter Experts and other engineering teams.
  • Collaborate with design teams to create models, assemblies, and drawings for experimental components and mechanical assemblies.
  • Promote Standard Work discipline through process development, documentation, and implementation.
  • Design and select robust, cost-effective components while developing engineering specifications.
  • Create laboratory test plans and analyze test data to ensure product performance and quality.
  • Utilize six-sigma methodologies, design for reliability principles, and corrective action systems such as FRACAS.
  • Willingness to travel domestically approximately 5-10%.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 5 years of industry experience is required.
  • A Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred.
Essential Skills/Knowledge:
  • Leadership in project teams, with the ability to translate market needs into product concepts, develop test plans, and manage schedules effectively.
  • Understanding of cooling and heating system functions, including combustion, heat transfer, airflow, and thermal stresses (preferred).
  • Familiarity with basic refrigeration principles (preferred).
  • Experience in Product Test Labs and testing processes (UL, ETL, AHRI, etc.).
  • Proficient in the application of computer simulation tools, such as Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
  • Knowledge of ANSI, CSA, ASHRAE, and DOE requirements.
  • Experience in project management and proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across functions and levels.
  • Excellent technical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong teamwork skills, interpersonal skills, and decision-making capabilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deliverables in a fast-paced environment.
  • Capability to quickly comprehend and organize information necessary for engineering decisions.
Base Compensation Range is $64,000 to $112,300.
