Key Responsibilities of the Child Behavior Intervention Specialist:
- Establish connections with individual children and early childhood education providers to deliver impactful behavioral intervention services.
- Conduct targeted classroom and child-specific behavioral assessments, providing constructive feedback and recommendations to educators to enhance positive guidance strategies.
- Offer continuous modeling and coaching in identified areas to assist classroom staff in implementing tailored social-emotional supports and intensive interventions for children exhibiting challenging behaviors.
- Support MHEL's behavior planning initiatives related to challenging behaviors from birth to five years, ensuring effective communication with center staff, families, and referral agencies.
- Provide necessary resources and modifications, including specialized furniture and materials, to assist educators in achieving classroom and child-specific objectives based on assessments and intervention plans.
- Facilitate collaboration and lead behavior intervention plan meetings with interdisciplinary teams and families to customize strategies and goals for children facing behavioral challenges.
- Deliver ongoing case management and consultation to families of children with challenging behaviors and their educators to inform onsite support and foster positive behavioral changes.
- Empower families to understand their rights and their children's rights within MHEL's policies regarding suspension, expulsion, child guidance, and behavior intervention.
- Oversee the tracking, documentation, monitoring, and reporting of students on caseload, including training and assisting educators with data collection.
- Conduct training sessions focused on supporting children with challenging behaviors, including the Inclusive Practices in Early Childhood (IPEC) certificate program and MHEL's Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS).
- Comprehend and support the implementation of the Mental Health/Disabilities action plan for the school year.
- Prepare relevant reports related to job responsibilities.
Standard Responsibilities:
- Utilize developmentally appropriate conflict resolution techniques to guide children in resolving their own disputes.
- Ensure that ethnic and cultural backgrounds are acknowledged and that cultural activities are integrated into the educational program.
- Engage with a diverse population, including individuals from various educational, economic, cultural, and racial backgrounds, some of whom may not speak English as their first language.
- Adhere to child care licensing requirements, Head Start Program Performance Standards, and all other relevant program regulations.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding all aspects of enrolled children and parents, as well as employee information, in accordance with MHEL, State of Colorado, and Federal regulations.
- Effectively manage conflict and maintain composure in busy or emergency situations.
- Identify and report child abuse in accordance with MHEL and State reporting protocols.
- Foster professional relationships with parents, colleagues, and community organizations.
- Participate in ongoing training to fulfill job requirements.
- Attend and contribute to agency meetings relevant to the role.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
- Associate of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE), Special Education, or a related field.
- Two years of experience working with children with disabilities and their families.
- Prior experience with children and families from diverse backgrounds.
- Successful clearance of CBI/Central Registry check and post-employment physical.
- Reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and current State of Colorado automobile insurance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE), Special Education, or a related field.
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish, Arabic, or Amharic.
Physical Requirements:
- Engage in activities that involve significant standing, walking, and moderate sitting; frequent stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, crawling, twisting, and reaching.
- Lift and work with objects weighing up to 20 pounds above shoulder height.
- Participate in routine conversations in person or via telephone and respond to auditory signals and alarms.
- Under exceptional circumstances, may need to lift a child weighing up to 50 pounds.
