About the Job

We are seeking a skilled Licensed Practical Nurse to join our team at the Department of Developmental Services in Connecticut. As a LPN, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care and support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Job Responsibilities
  • Provide bedside care and mental health services to individuals with physical disabilities and/or intellectual disabilities
  • Assist doctors and nurses in the general care and treatment of individuals
  • Measure and administer medications, including insulin injections
  • Document medications using appropriate forms
  • Perform narcotic counts and check and administer intravenous medications
  • Report changes in individuals to doctors and ensure that restraints are applied correctly
  • Transcribe doctors' medication orders and dispense certain medications in their absence
  • Apply topical medication, take and chart temperatures, pulses, and respirations, and perform simple nursing treatments
  • Monitor general individual needs, including personal hygiene, and report on individual conditions and behavior
  • Keep the unit safe and healthy, administer enemas or suppositories, and perform Foley catheterization care
  • Orient individuals concerning medications and their use, and may perform emergency first aid and drive individuals to necessary appointments/outings
Requirements
  • License or temporary permit to practice nursing in Connecticut by the State Board of Examiners for Nursing
  • Preferred qualifications include experience providing nursing services to both children and adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities and autism spectrum disorder, as well as experience working with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities
