Position Summary:
The Mortgage Processor is integral in ensuring the efficient handling of mortgage and home equity applications. This role involves scrutinizing and validating loan documentation to guarantee adherence to underwriting standards and regulatory mandates while working closely with various stakeholders to streamline the mortgage approval and closing processes. The Mortgage Processor is responsible for the precision and thoroughness of all loan documents through to closing, ensuring compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act, Anti-Money Laundering regulations, mortgage laws, and internal policies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess and verify mortgage applications for completeness and accuracy.
- Confirm applicant details, including income, employment history, credit assessments, and property appraisals.
- Collaborate with loan officers, underwriters, and applicants to obtain any additional documentation or clarifications required.
- Analyze the financial standing and creditworthiness of applicants to establish eligibility for mortgage loans.
- Ensure all documentation complies with regulatory and company standards, including Truth in Lending (TILA) and Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA) guidelines.
- Maintain effective communication with applicants, real estate professionals, and other relevant parties to provide updates on mortgage application statuses.
- Organize and prepare loan files for underwriting review, ensuring all necessary documents are packaged correctly.
- Work with underwriters to resolve any outstanding conditions or documentation required for loan approval.
- Keep accurate and current records of all mortgage applications and related communications.
- Draft closing disclosures and other essential documents in line with TRID regulations.
- Coordinate with title companies, legal representatives, and other stakeholders to arrange and facilitate loan closings.
- Conduct final checks of closing documents to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare funding packages and submit loans for funding promptly.
- Assist in addressing any issues or discrepancies that may arise during the mortgage processing and approval stages.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Proficient in technology and capable of mastering new software and systems.
- Strong command of the English language with excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of conveying expectations to clients while positively representing the organization.
- Mental and visual acuity necessary for effectively utilizing technology and entering data into systems.
- Exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational abilities, and the capacity to manage multiple loan files and contacts simultaneously.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding customer and employee information, as well as internal business practices.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A minimum of five years of experience in mortgage processing and closing, with a solid understanding of mortgage lending practices and regulations.
- Familiarity with relevant regulations and guidelines, including FHA, VA, and conventional loan requirements.
- Outstanding attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Experience with Microsoft Office and loan origination software (LOS) is required; familiarity with Encompass LOS is preferred.
- An associate degree in finance or business administration is preferred.
- Supervisory experience in mortgage operations is advantageous.
Working Environment:
Generally favorable, with minimal discomfort from heat, noise, dust, or other environmental factors.
