Physical and Environmental Conditions

As an Associate Teacher, you will be responsible for various program elements on a daily basis and will be exposed to indoor and outdoor elements. You may be required to:

  • Environmental Safety: Visually inspect the environment for hazards to children, identify hazards, and implement preventative actions to maintain a safe environment for children.
  • Loud Environments: Be comfortable with occasional loud noise in outdoor environments during activities.
  • Physical Demands: Be comfortable with frequent bending, lifting, twisting, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
  • Object Handling: Push, lift, carry, and hold various objects up to 15 lbs. by individual or team effort.
  • Weather Conditions: Work inside the classroom or outside in all weather conditions that are safe for children.
  • Terrain and Heights: Traverse various terrains and heights, depending on the school outdoor environment.
  • Child Adaptability: Adapt to the physical level of children for activities and problem-solving interactions.
  • Field Trips: Supervise field trips to destinations such as aquatic parks, beaches, and trampoline parks.
Qualifications and Experience

Catalyst Kids is seeking an Associate Teacher who is a member of the teaching team and shares responsibility for the care and education of an assigned group of children/classroom. There may be more than one person designated as an Associate Teacher for each group of children.

Education and Permit Requirements
  • Education: 12-24 postsecondary semester or equivalent quarter units in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field with passing grades of C- or better.
  • Permit: Associate Teacher Permit or above issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
Experience and Skills
  • Experience: 6-12 months of experience in a group care environment where care/teaching was provided for a consistent age group is preferred.
  • Problem-Solving and Conflict Resolution: Effective problem-solving, conflict resolution, classroom management, and communication with children and families.
  • Organization and Time Management: Effective organization, time management, curriculum, and assessment documentation (lesson plans, portfolios, and anecdotal notes).
  • Teamwork and Communication: Ability to work alongside colleagues and maintain a professional team environment.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification: Current adult and infant/child CPR and First Aid certification is preferred.
  • Bilingual/Multilingual: Bilingual/multilingual language preference based on individual center needs.
